The police have arrested the woman, a resident of Kharar and former Home Guards volunteer in the UT police, who had handed over the fake currency and opium to Bhagwan Dass, who was nabbed by the Maloya police last month. The woman had arranged 2.6 kg of opium from Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Rajasthan who has also been arrested by the police.

The police had recently arrested retired UT police inspector Tarsem Rana, lawyer Jatin Salwan, Ludhiana native Narinder Singh and Navjot Dhaliwal for allegedly planting 2.6 kg of opium and Rs 15 lakh fake currency in the car of Bhagwan Singh.

Sukhbir Singh Shergil, owner of SAS Information Technology and Research, Mohali, had received a call from a Canadian number. A person had asked Shergil to collect files which could have helped Shergil settle a score with Narinder Singh. Shergil had sent his accountant, Bhagwan, to collect it. A woman had handed over the files to Bhagwan. However, the accused had allegedly stacked cash and drugs in the files.

Navdeep Singh Brar, SP (City), said the woman, Lovepreet Kaur, was arrested from Charnawala village in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. “The woman had arranged the opium,” the SP said.

Police sources said on the disclosure made by Lovepreet, they had arrested Kuldeep Singh, alias Raj Singh, who had allegedly provided opium to Lovepreet.

The sources said on the day of the incident, Lovepreet arrived in her Alto car while Narinder came in his Cruze car to ensure that everything went as planned.

Lovepreet was produced in the court, which remanded her in three-day police custody. The sources said Kuldeep Singh would be produced in the court tomorrow.

Kaur served UT police

Police sources said Lovepreet Kaur was a Home Guards volunteer in the UT police during 2003 and 2004.

Call from Canadian number made from India

The call from the Canadian number was made from India by Ashok, an employee of Navjot Singh, from his institute in Moga using a mobile application through which the Canadian phone number appeared on the receiver’s mobile phone.
