Karnal, August 23

More than 300 followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda today assembled at a Naam Charcha Ghar near Kambopura village. Before leaving for Panchkula, the followers threatened the state government of dire consequences if the verdict was unfavourable.

Satish Kumar, a follower, said: “It is a politically motivated attempt to malign the image of the dera as well as of our guru ji. We are chanting Ram naam peacefully. We are hopeful that the verdict will go in favour of our guru ji and if it goes against then we will go to any extent.”

The government would be responsible for any untoward incident if the verdict was pronounced against the dera chief, he said.

“We are going peacefully to Panchkula and will stay there peacefully,” he said. After raising slogans in support of dera chief, they left for Panchkula on motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Aditya Dahiya appointed 14 Duty Magistrates to maintain law and order in the district, while Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa deployed paramilitary forces along the national highway and the main entry points to the city and the district.
