Roads encroached upon

The new vegetable market has been shifted outside the city. But still, two vegetable and fruit markets are running illegally in the city. One is located at the site of the old vegetable market, while the second one is at Mughal Canal market. Karnal city is already part of the Smart City project and the site of the old vegetable market has been earmarked for a multi-storey parking lot. Due to lethargic approach of the authorities, vendors have encroached on the road that leads to traffic jam. The authorities must ensure vegetable and fruit market should be operated from the dedicated place near the grain market. — Malak Singh, Karnal

No check on stray cattle

The stray cattle menace continues unabated in Ambala City. Bull fights have become a common sight, putting the people’s lives in danger. The Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) is unable to curb the menace. It has always been found wanting, be it the case of cattle menace or dirty water supply or sewerage blockades or illegally run IELTS centres. The authorities must take cognisance of such matters and take action to make lives of citizens convenient. — Gian P Kansal, Ambala City

‘Gaushalas’ under financial strain

In spite of the tall claims by the state government to tackle stray cattle menace, there is hardly any improvement in the situation. The presence of stray animals on busy roads, residential colonies and busy business centres has increased. ‘Gaushalas’ are already full to capacity. The managements of ‘gaushalas’ are reeling under heavy financial burden due to lack of funds .The state government has provided some funds to ‘gaushalas’ but these were insufficient to meet day-to-day expenditure running into lakhs of rupees. The government should chalk out a strategy to check the menace. – Advocate RK Nijhawan, Kaithal 

Plying of illegal vehicles unchecked

Unauthorised commercial vehicles continue to ply without any check in Faridabad city. There are hundreds of such vehicles, causing traffic jams on several roads in the city. Battery-operated auto-rickshaws add to the traffic mess. With minor accidents common, Unauthorised vehicles are not challaned as they are without the registration number. Many of the auto-rickshaws are being used for commercial purpose, which is illegal. The authorities ought to curb illegal commercial activity immediately. — Dalip Sharma, Faridabad

Back-breaking road in Ambala

A road from Kallarheri village to Panjokhara Sahib gurdawara is in bad shape, particularly towards the Naraingarh side. It has several potholes. It is shocking that a road which leads to the famous Panjokhara Sahib is not being maintained. The road must be repaired immediately. Garbage dumps, at several places along the road, also need to be cleared. Let’s maintain a high standard of public infrastructure and services. — Col RD Singh (retd), Ambala Cantt
