Parking blues for Metro train commuters in Bahadurgarh

Residents of Bahadurgarh have Metro, but remain anxious about their vehicles while travelling. Reason: the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) is yet to start parking facility at its stations in Bahadurgarh. The situation makes passengers park their vehicles at unsafe places on the road.

Several incidents of motorcycle theft from outside Metro stations have been reported ever since the service was launched. Though space is available for parking at Metro stations, passengers are not allowed to use it. Only Metro employees can park their vehicles there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 11-km fully-elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh corridor of Green Line through video-conferencing on June 24. The stretch had seven stations, four in Delhi and three in Bahadurgarh — Modern Industrial Estate, bus stand and City Park.

“I travel daily by Metro from City Park to Delhi and have to park my car on the road. I remain worried until I find my car on coming back in the evening. Some motorcycles have been stolen,” said Kuldeep Singh, a regular passenger.

Parveen Kumar, another passenger, said they earlier parked their vehicles inside Gauriya Tourist Complex, adjacent to the City Park station, but the authority there had started closing the main gate to avoid parking by Metro passengers.

“In this situation, we have no option but to park vehicles on the road. The Metro authorities are duty-bound to provide parking to passengers and hence, should allow us to park vehicles at its parking slots,” he said.

A considerable number of passengers from Jhajjar, Rohtak and nearby villages used the Metro from Bahadurgarh. Himanshu, manager, corporate communications, DMRC, said the tender for parking was under process and passengers would soon be able to get the facility at every Metro station in Bahadurgarh.
