Yamunanagar, October 13

Residents of five Yamunanagar colonies have pasted posters on walls, threatening to boycott the upcoming Assembly elections.

They say automobile workshop owners have encroached on the school road of Rampura colony, causing hardship to the public, but the municipal corporation is not paying heed to the long-pending problem.

“Residents of five colonies of the Rampura area have been facing a number of problems, including traffic jams, due to encroachment on the school road by automobile workshop owners. We have decided to boycott the elections and put up posters on walls and other places in our colonies in this regard,” said Devender Mehta, a resident of Green Park Colony Phase II.

According to information, residents of Green Park Colony Phase I, Green Park Colony Phase II, Hardev Colony, Rajdhani Colony and Calandi Colony, under the banner of Green Park Welfare Association, held a meeting in a park on Thursday.

In the meeting, the residents decided to boycott the Assembly elections. They put up posters at various places in their colonies in this regard.

“Commuters passing through the school road face a lot of difficulty while entering and exiting the colony as this stretch has been encroached upon by automobile workshop owners who get cars for repairs parked on the roadside. This stretch connects five colonies of the area,” said Vinod Sethi, president of the association. He said mechanics often repaired vehicles parked on the roadside, causing congestion.

“We have requested the local administration and municipal corporation to get the road cleared of encroachment so that commuters have some relief from congestion. No action has been taken and these shop owners are continuing their business on the roadside,” added Sethi.

Mayor Madan Chauhan on Friday said this stretch would be free of encroachment the next day, but nothing was done so far.
