Shimla, December 9

The state government seems to have done its bit by launching the “horn not Ok” campaign in Shimla, but the message doesn’t seem to have really been disseminated.

To take the message forward, the Civil Defence on Sunday kicked off a three-day awareness campaign. The “Horn not ok” campaign was launched by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur for Shimla and Manali, but not only tourists, locals too seemed unaware of it.

“It is an appreciable step taken by the government towards making Shimla a noise-free city and Civil Defence volunteers are further carrying the flag of awareness through a campaign,” Mohinder Seth, chief warden, Civil Defence, said.

The volunteers organised an awareness walk from Loreto Convent Tara Hall till Victory Tunnel. Carrying placards, they distributed pamphlets among commuters, urging them to make Shimla a no-horn city.

The campaign will continue for the next two days (December 10 and 11). The volunteers will create awareness near the Secretariat and local bus stop near Gurdwara Sahib and the Lift.

Seth said the Tourism Industry Stakeholders Association was supporting the campaign. “The success of the “horn not ok” campaign will not only save us from health hazards due to noise pollution, but will have a positive impact on the tourism sector,” Seth said.
