Solan, May 25

Governor Acharya Devvrat today said the state government would train about 50,000 farmers under natural farming in the financial year and hoped that Himachal would emerge a natural farming state by 2022.

He was presiding over a workshop on Subhash Palekar Natural Farming under ‘Prakritik Krishi Khushal Kisan Yojana’ organised by the Agriculture Department at the YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.

He said he had about 25 years of experience on chemical and organic farming and switched over to natural farming as it was beneficial in many ways. It had helped in protecting environment, improved soil fertility, decreased the cost of production and also improved the financial conditions of farmers.

Devvrat appreciated the efforts of the Agriculture Department and congratulated the officials involved in propagating the method of farming. — TNS
