Meet on prisoners’ welfare tomorrow

SHIMLA: A two-day national conference on “Positive Engagement of Inmates in Prison” will be held on September 18 and 19 in which DGs and IGs of Prisons & Correctional Services of 16 states and two union territories will discuss issues related to the welfare, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners with society.



Shimla, September 16

A two-day national conference on “Positive Engagement of Inmates in Prison” will be held on September 18 and 19 in which DGs and IGs of Prisons & Correctional Services of 16 states and two union territories will discuss issues related to the welfare, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners with society.

Directorate General of Prisons & Correctional Service of HP is co-hosting the conference along with Bureau of Police Research & Development. Experts, academia, NGOs, industrialists and members of civil society will participate. Himachal prison department is at the forefront of reforms and rehabilitation of prisoners in the country. Initiatives like Shimla Book Cafe and Har Haath Ko Kaam projects have become benchmarks of prisoner reintegration with society.

This is for the second time that the department is hosting a national-level meet, first being the conference on women in detention. — TNS
