Prepare for monsoon: DC to PWD

In a bid to step up the preparedness for ensuing monsoon season, Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner(DC) directed the officials of the PWD today to take effective steps for the landslide-prone areas and to ensure that the vehicular traffic doesn’t come to a halt.

While convening a meeting of the district-level disaster management, DC Lalit Jain said the maintenance of vulnerable stretches on the roads would facilitate the agrarian community in transporting their produce to the markets without any hindrance. He also directed the officials of the PWD to repair the black spots to bring down the number of accidents.

He informed that a toll free helpline number has been set up in the district-level control room which will provide round-the-clock assistance. Such control rooms have also been set up at sub-division level.

The DC also directed the officials not to grant long leave to their staff during the monsoons unless there was an emergency and to be prepared to deal with emergencies. He also urged them to ensure availability of adequate JCBs on key roads, which are prone to landslides. — TNS
