Shimla, February 20

In the wake of fresh snowfall in Jakhu, Kufri and Charabra, a large number of tourists on  Wednesday thronged the capital city.

However, fresh snowfall brought normal life to a halt in the upper Shimla area, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Pangi, Bharmour, Dalhousie and upper parts of Kullu and Mandi districts.

While 225 roads, including 105 roads in Rampur, Rohru, Chopal and Kinnaur, remained closed to traffic for the last two days due to the snowfall, the weather forecast of widespread snow and hailstorms from tomorrow  for two days is likely to hit the restoration work.

The traffic was restored on Kufri, Narkanda and Kharapathar road for small vehicles today, but the HRTC bus services have remained suspended on 105 roads in the Shimla zone. The Baghi-Kadrala,  Theog-Hatkoti-Rohru and Theog-Sainj-Deha-Chopal roads remained  blocked, revealed the reports. — TNS

Met Dept issues warning

The Met department sounded  alert, stating that the fresh western disturbance would result in widespread rain and hailstorms in lower and mid hills and heavy snowfall in the higher region on February 21 and 22.  The intensity of rain and snow would decline after February 22, the report said.
