4 policemen dismissed in rifle loot case

SRINAGAR: The police on Monday dismissed four policemen whose rifles were looted by suspected militants from the official residence of the legislative councillor in Srinagar on Sunday.

Srinagar, December 31

The police on Monday dismissed four policemen whose rifles were looted by suspected militants from the official residence of the legislative councillor in Srinagar on Sunday. It is not, however, clear how many militants were involved in the loot.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Security, Munir Khan told The Tribune that the four policemen had been dismissed from service. “They have been dismissed from service for unauthorised absence and dereliction of duty,” the ADGP said. The rifles were looted from the official residence of Congress Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Muzafar Parray at Jawahar Nagar in the heart of city. The AK-series assault rifles were looted by suspected militants who barged into Parray’s residence and pointed a gun at the only guard present there. Of the four policemen deputed to guard the residence of the MLC in the high-security Jawahar Nagar locality, which is home to senior politicians and former legislators, only one was present at the time of the looting.

DIG of Police, central Kashmir, VK Birdi, said investigation was underway to find the identity of the militants involved in the incident. — TNS
