Bar members suspend work

JAMMU: The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, on Tuesday suspended work in all courts and took out a rally in support of the demands raised by the Bar Council of India.

The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, on Tuesday suspended work in all courts and took out a rally in support of the demands raised by the Bar Council of India.

Responding to the call given by the council, several lawyers took out a rally from the J&K High Court Complex, Janipur, to the Governor’s house. The Bar association also submitted a memorandum to the President and Prime Minister through the Governor.

The council is demanding that all Bar associations of the country should have a chamber, adequate building, well-equipped library, e-library, internet facility, toilets, budgetary allocation of Rs 5,000 crore for lawyers and litigants’ welfare and amendments in the Legal Services Authority Act.

Association president BS Slathia appealed to all members of the legal fraternity to unite for any struggle in future in case their demands were not fulfilled. — TNS
