JAMMU: Tibetan spiritual leader and Nobel Laureate Dalai Lama will address the maiden convocation of the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) at Zorawar Singh Auditorium in the University of Jammu here on March 18.

Tibetan spiritual leader and Nobel Laureate Dalai Lama will address the maiden convocation of the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) at Zorawar Singh Auditorium in the University of Jammu here on March 18.

Since its inception in 2011, this will be the first-ever convocation of the university. Over 900 candidates who have completed their courses till 2017 will be awarded degrees and medals.

Union Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh and former Army Chief General NC Vij will also be conferred degrees honoris causa during the convocation. While Jitendra Singh will be awarded the doctorate of philosophy in public policy and public administration, the former Army Chief will receive the doctorate of philosophy in national security studies. “As many as 43 university gold medals, two special medals of J&K Bank — one each for a male and female student — 14 PhD degrees and 20 M Phil degrees will be awarded during the convocation,” the official said, adding that “only the toppers and PhD and M Phil awardees would be invited on the dais for receiving the medals and degrees from the Dalai Lama.” — TNS
