Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh has lashed out at Shah Faesal for targeting the “tolerant Indian state” and not the terrorists after resigning from the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) on Wednesday.

Jitendra dared Shah Faesal to target terrorists and not the Indian state.

“You cannot enjoy protection of security forces against a potential attack and at the same time you are not courageous enough to point out at a terrorist as a terrorist. But find a soft target in an Indian state which is tolerant and gives leverage to your expression,” Jitendra told a news agency on Thursday.

Faesal, who topped the UPSC civil services in 2010, had become a youth icon not only in Kashmir but also in the entire country.

On Wednesday, Faesal said he had resigned to “to protest against unabated killings in Kashmir, lack of any sincere reach-out from union government and marginalisation of Muslims by Hindutva forces in India”.

Reacting to his resignation and reasons given, Jitendra said: “This in itself is an indication of lack of conviction. If you have the conviction then you should be ready to condemn the act of terrorism.”

Meanwhile, former Home Minister P Chidambaram termed Faesal’s decision sad and said, “The world will take note of his cry of anguish and defiance.” — TNS
