International conference at SMVDU

The International Conference on Applied Biology (ICAB-2019) and the first Annual Convention of Society of Biologists was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra on Monday.



The International Conference on Applied Biology (ICAB-2019) and the first Annual Convention of Society of Biologists was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra on Monday. The conference is being organised by the School of Biotechnology, a leading and research oriented school of the university. Minister of State, Dr Jitendra Singh, who holds an independent charge of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region was the chief guest on the occasion.

Poster-making competition 

Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, on Monday celebrated 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev by organising a poster-making competition on his Life and teachings. A total of 20 students of the college participated in the competition depicting/displaying the life and teaching of Guru Nanak Dev. Shalini Chib, Sakshi Bhau and Jagriti Sharma were adjudged first, second and third respectively. Dr Manohar , Dr Rachna and Prof Shikha were jury members on the occasion . Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by Dr PK Rao, vice-principal of the college.

Dogra college holds lecture

A lecture on the topic "Impact of modern agricultural practice" was held at Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana, on Monday. Prof Anil K Raina delivered the lecture to the students of the college who were made aware of various aspects of modern agriculture practices. Prof Raina appreciated the efforts of the college in organising the lecture on agriculture. The management and staff of Dogra Degree College also expressed gratitude to Prof Raina.

Green Day celebrations

Green Day was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm in the pre primary wing of stepping Stone Playway School. The pre nursery, nursery, prep students, and teachers were dressed in green attires. The classrooms were beautifully decorated in green theme and all the green objects from a child's immediate surroundings were brought to the classrooms.

Workshop on gender equality 

Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (SSGCWS), MIER, on Monday organised a daylong workshop on the theme “Advancing Gender Equality". The resource person was Dr MalvikaUpadhya, an eminent social scientist from Delhi. Dr Renu Gupta, vice-chairperson, MIER, was the guest of honour. The workshop was divided into two sessions. On the commencement of the workshop, Dr Upadhya said gender equality was essential for the achievement of human rights for all.
