Jammu, December 6

In his first communication after he was detained following the revocation of J&K’s special status and its bifurcation into two UTs on August 5, former Chief Minister and senior parliamentarian Farooq Abdullah vented out his anger against the “ill-treatment” being meted out to him and questioned the poor postal delivery system in the Valley.

In a letter addressed to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Farooq was angry over the failure of the Department of Posts to deliver his letters on time.

“Thank you for your letter of October 21, which has been delivered to me today by the Magistrate who looks after me while I am in the sub-jail. It is most unfortunate that they are not able to deliver me my post in time. I am sure this is not the way to treat a senior MP and leader of a political party. We are not criminals,” Farooq wrote to Tharoor in a letter on December 2.

On Thursday, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had claimed that all 698 post offices in Kashmir were functional. “However, to regulate the inward mail traffic and electronic money orders, the Department of Posts temporarily suspended booking and transmission of speed post, registered post and parcels from August 5 to 18. Mail services to Kashmir resumed from August 19 and the electronic money orders from August 28,” he had said.
