Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that it was the Sikh community and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi who saved Kashmiri students from mob violence in Jammu and other places.

Addressing a gathering of party workers and supporters in Baramulla town, the National Conference leader said: “It was the Sikh community across the country that saved Kashmiri students from mob violence after the Pulwama attack”.

“It was the responsibility of the Modi government to provide protection to the students who were attacked by rightwing extremists in Jammu and other states. Unfortunately, the Modi government did not exist anywhere (where the violence took place).” Abdullah also targeted former chief minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti saying that people had to face bullets and pellets during her government and she was now trying to fool the same people.

Senior National Conference leader Ali Muhammad Sagar told the gathering said the workers of National Conference were the “real mujahideen” or holy warriors.

Sagar’s remark came days after Mehbooba Mufti called her party activists the “real mujahideen”.  IANS
