JAMMU: An Army soldier was injured in a sniper fire from across the LoC in the Akhnoor sector on Friday. The incident took place around 5.30 pm in the Lalyari forward area of the Akhnoor sector.



JAMMU: An Army soldier was injured in a sniper fire from across the LoC in the Akhnoor sector on Friday. The incident took place around 5.30 pm in the Lalyari forward area of the Akhnoor sector. He was evacuated to a military hospital at Udhampur and his condition is said to be stable. This is the second firing incident by Pakistan within a week. On July 7, the Pakistani army had resorted to sniper fire in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri. TNS

11,038 pilgrims offer prayers at Amarnath 

Srinagar: As the Amarnath yatra has been going on smoothly with further improvement in weather conditions, as many as 11,038 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine on the 17th day on Sunday. With this the total number of pilgrims who have paid obeisance at the cave shrine has gone up to 1,76,044 since the annual yatra began on June 28.  TNS

Grievance Cell gets 4,623 complaints 

Srinagar: Since the imposition of Governor’s rule on June 20, the Grievance Cell has received 4,623 complaints and grievances till July 13. Of these, 3,810 have been disposed of/forwarded to the quarters concerned for their timely redressal. An official spokesman said 1,665 complaints and grievances were under process. The Governor’s Secretariat has also received 1,510 grievances, of which 1,395 complaints have been disposed of or forwarded to the quarters concerned and 115 are under process. TNS

Cricket tourney for visually impaired opens  

Jammu: Devender Singh Rana, National Conference provincial president, on Saturday inaugurated the two-day Triangular Cricket Tournament for visually impaired at Gulshan Grounds here. He lauded the resilience and fortitude of visually impaired cricketers and their love for the game. He said the event would have an everlasting impact on him and sports lovers of Jammu. Organised by the National Federation of Blind, J&K Chapter, the tournament will have players from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and J&K. TNS
