Urdu a language of grandeur: VC

A two-day National Urdu Congress under the theme “Language, Literature and Society”, organised by the Department of Urdu, was inaugurated at the University of Kashmir on Wednesday. The conference has been sponsored by J&K Bank.

While inaugurating the conference, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said: “Literature has the capacity to incorporate into itself the entire universe of discourses.” He said Urdu was a language of glamour and grandeur.

“It holds literature so stately that the charm of expressing thoughts in Urdu is not matched by any other language. The purpose of the two-day event is truly served by bringing the stakeholders of the Urdu language together for a dialogue and criticism.”

The organisers said the purpose of the Urdu Congress was to bring the stakeholders of the Urdu language on a common platform for dialogue, discussion and literary criticism. — TNS
