DAV University organised a cross-country race to support Fit India Movement launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. About 400 students participated in the race. The race was flagged off by Dr Desh Bandhu Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of the University and Dr Sushma Arya, Registrar along with Dr Yeshbeer Singh, Deputy Director Sports.

The Vice-Chancellor said such events motivate students to stay fit and stay ahead in life.

Results: Cross Country (women): Nikita (first), Rinki (second), Jyotsna (third). (men): Mukul Tomar (first), Shubham Sharma (second) and Akshay Bharti (third).

Sanskriti KMV School

The school witnessed a live session on the launch of Fit India Movement. Address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was witnessed by the students and the teachers of the school. Marking the National Sports Day, the programme laid emphasis on the need of physical and mental fitness in the age of technology as the need of an hour, for the people of all age groups.

The initiative gave the students a morale booster and reassured their commitment for good health of their own and environment. School is running a special sports camp under the fitness campaign with more than 400 students active in various sports fields. Rachna Monga, principal, in her address to the students, appreciated the enthusiasm of young school players and athletes as well as the concrete efforts of the school towards developing the overall fitness of the students to bring the young generation in unison for good health.

Lyallpur Khalsa College

Marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand was celebrated on the lush green sports outfields of Lyallpur Khalsa College. Satnam Singh, former international level athlete and national coach, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

As a part of the programme, a cross country was held wherein the first three position holders namely, Lovepreet, Sagar and Deepak (boys) and Chandani, Kiran and Simran Saini (girls) along with the first 15 position holders were honoured with track suits and sports kits by Satnam Singh, Principal of the college, Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra, Dr Jaspal Singh, HoD, Physical Education and Sports and Dr Tarsem Singh.

The overall trophy went to the basketball group of the college. Satnam Singh shared memories from his sports journey and also recalled the role played by the college in producing numerous international-level quality athletes.

Principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra reiterated the college’s commitment towards providing conducive atmosphere and facilities for its budding sportsmen and urged the sportsmen to follow their disciplines with full dedication.

Dr Jaspal Singh presented the detailed report on various activities and achievements of the Sports Department during the session 2018-19 and highlighted the college’s winning of the overall sports trophy of GNDU, Amritsar, for the record 24th time.

Dr Karanbir Singh delivered the vote of thanks. Prof Amritpal Singh Nindrayog, Dr Vikas Kumar, Dr Ajitpal Singh, Prof Gurpreet Singh and Prof Satpal Singh were present.

Innocent Hearts Group

Four schools of Innocent Hearts Group at Green Model Town, Loharan, Cantt-Jandiala, Road and Royal World International School watched the live telecast of Fit India Movement. Movement programme launched by the PM today. The PM told students to stay fit by getting involved in outdoor games, gadgets cannot keep us healthy because different outdoor games lead to fitness. Indian field sports like “gilli danda”, “langdi taang”, playing with colourful marbles were also a sort of exercises which enhances concentration, ability to measurelong distance without tape and a great massage for feet.

The children took a pledge to take care of their health and to add nutritive food in their diet. They also said: “We will motivate our parents also to go for a walk daily to live a healthy and long life.

Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar

The institute celebrated National Sports Day to mark the birth anniversary of Indian hockey wizard – Major Dhyan Chand. A three-km cross country race was conducted by the Department of Physical Education. Nearly 100 students showcased their enthusiasm in the event.

Results: In boys category, Nitin Salaria, Gurkirat Singh and Aditya Chabbra bagged the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. In girls category: Swati, Vanshika and Nancy won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. In the same event Kriti and Pratham received consolation prizes.

Principal Dr Sucharita Sharma put forth that sports and academics should go hand in hand and it is important for students to participate in sports as well. She congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of Harmandeep Singh of the Department of Physical Education for successfully conducting the event.

Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology

The institute participated in the ‘Fit India Movement’, launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. The programme aimed to encourage all students, staff and faculty members to inculcate a culture of fitness. Director of the institute Prof Lalit Kumar Awasthi administered a fitness pledge to all students, staff and faculty members in his address and inviting all Indians to join in.

Prof Awasthi also been instructed to prepare and implement an institutional fitness plan incorporating sports,exercises and physical activities to remain fit. Prof. Awasthi and his team have taken the round of the campus and completed 10,000 steps with approximately 500 students, staff and faculty members of NIT. He also encouraged all students, staff and faculty members to walk 10,000 steps every day.

He also told the students and faculty members that “Health is Wealth” and it was the healthy body and healthy mind which plays a key role in the effective delivery of the routine work. Therefore, he laid stress on adding daily walk, sports and yoga in their daily life.
