The state government has been imparting training to students of class X of government schools for free under the “Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab campaign”. The objective behind it is to improve results in the state government’s competitive exams and groom the students for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE).

To inspect the quality of teaching in coaching centres, District Education Officer (DEO) Harwinder Pal Singh and Deputy DEO Anil Awasthi visited the class today and asked the students questions related to mental ability test (MAT) and scholastic aptitude test (SAT), on which the exam is based.

The DEO said NCERT was conducting the NTSE to identify talented students, who want to pursue higher education in science and social science streams, and award them with scholarships.

Meanwhile, six teachers — Bhupinder Singh, Kulvinder Singh Ghakhal, Harsh Looba, Anju Bala, Manish Goel and Deepak Kumar — of different government schools in the district have been deputed as NTSE mentors.

Kulvinder Singh said the coaching was completely free of cost and the students were being benefitted from the initiative. Besides, in highly advanced coaching centres, the students were also being provided meals by the government, he added.

Block Mentor (Science) of the Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab scheme Deepali Sharma said the best part of the initiative was that there was a team of subject experts to train the students for the exam.
