Dinanagar terror attack martyr’s son to lead parade in city

JALANDHAR: Assistant Commissioner of Police (crime) Maninder Pal Singh, who is the son of Dinanagar terror attack martyr SP Baljit Singh, will lead the parade during the Independence Day function at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium here this year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (crime) Maninder Pal Singh, who is the son of Dinanagar terror attack martyr SP Baljit Singh, will lead the parade during the Independence Day function at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium here this year.

Maninder Pal, who hails from Kapurthala and had recently completed his training, had got his first regular posting in Jalandhar last month.

The parade will have 18 contingents, including paramilitary forces, Punjab Police, Home Guards, NCC, Guardians of Governance (GoGs), Tandarust Punjab and Scouts and Guides.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said it would be for the first time that the contingents of GoGs and Tandarust Punjab would also be part of the parade. The two bodies are a part of a recent scheme of the Congress government in the state. During the march past, the contingents of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) would be followed by two platoons of the Punjab Police, one of the Punjab Home Guards, five of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), besides five of boys Scout and Girl Guides.

The DC said bands of the CRPF and the Army would add charm to the festivities of the Independence Day. Sharma said rehearsals for the mega event were already going on in full swing at the stadium and the function would be held with patriotic fervour.

He said besides the elegant march past, a wide range of cultural items showcasing the glorious culture of the state would also be part of the celebrations.

Meanwhile, Sharma also interacted with participants of the contingents at the stadium and appreciated their enthusiasm for the parade despite the humid environment.

He also asked about the refreshment being given to them during the rehearsals. He motivated them to continue to show such dedication and zeal for the country.

He added that administration had already issued directions to various departments regarding the duties assigned to them for the event.
