With the opening match of this edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday night, the IPL fervour has gripped cricket fans across the country.

Following in the footsteps of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that had launched ‘IPL Fan Parks’ to bring fans closer to the real action of the cricket league, hotels, pubs and restaurants in the city have also adopted a similar concept to provide a stadium-like ambience for IPL fans. Besides, the discounts being offered on beverages have made the concept of live streaming of IPL matches in restaurants popular among residents.

“The sporting fervour is at an all-time high among the cricket fans during IPL seasons. To provide them a cheerful and sporty environment, we have placed big screens for visitors so that they could enjoy their food and drinks while watching their favourite teams competing for victory,” said Jitender, assistant restaurant manager at The Throwback Story.

In addition, apart from favourable deals on drinks, free beer for one person would be offered during every match, Jitender said.

Hotel Country Inn is also providing special package offers on drinks at lower rates.

Managers at the hotel had already placed an IPL special offer banner, displaying the offers. Fans of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have a reason to cheer as one of the offers reads: ‘Every time Dhoni or Virat hit a six, get a free drink’.

Anil Kumar, assistant manager at Underdogs, said: “Special live commentary would be arranged for supporting the Kings XI Punjab team and they were also planning to offer something different to residents this time.”

Archit Manocha, a resident of Model Town, said: “I am an ardent fan of the IPL and watch every match. Though I watch the matches at my home, to boost my excitement level I sometimes visit eateries and enjoy the matches with other IPL fans.
