A hotel management student committed suicide this afternoon by hanging from a ceiling fan of her paying guest (PG) accommodation at Master Tara Singh Nagar here.

The deceased was identified as Nidhi, a resident of Reru Pind, near Pathankot bypass. According to police sources, Nidhi was undergoing a hotel management training at Hotel Maya and had taken the PG accommodation on rent about a month ago as it was near to the hotel.

According to Navi Baradari police station Inspector Balbir Singh, the PG owner met the deceased in the morning. In the afternoon, Nidhi’s friends went to her room to call her but despite knocking the door repeatedly, she did not respond.

Later, when the PG owner, the deceased’s friends and some people of the locality broke open the door, they found the victim hanging from the ceiling fan. Following which, they informed the police and her family members.

Balbir said: “The body was found hanging with earphones plugged in the ear. It seems that the girl was on a call with someone when she decided to take the extreme step.”

The police said the victim might be in a relationship. However, they were trying to trace the last call details. A two-three page note has been found from the room which states that the girl was depressed as if she was cheated.

Balbir said the body had been sent for the autopsy and would be handed over to the family by tomorrow. When asked whether any case had been registered, he said: “We are investigating the matter and according to the family’s consent, a case will be registered.”
