Jalandhar, August 14

A day after Doaba witnessed violent clashes during the Punjab bandh, it was peace as usual in the region.

Since tomorrow is Raksha Bandhan, the markets which remained shut saw huge rush since morning. Women flocked various markets of the city in large numbers to buy threads for their brothers, sweets and gift items. Even the shopkeepers extended their counters well outside their boundary lines to attract more customers and make space for them to move about to take their pick.

All markets, including Rainak Bazaar, Sheikhan Bazaar, Model Town, Preet Nagar and other markets remained abuzz with activities. Even Dalit activists too seemingly got busy in the festivities today. Heavy security was deployed at every nook and corner of the city because of the CM’s visit.
