Jalandhar, November 17

Inter-zonal youth festival was inaugurated at Lyallpur Khalsa College here on Saturday. Students of 35 colleges, affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, participated in the event.

Navjot Singh Mahal, SSP (Rural) Jalandhar, graced the occasion as chief guest of the day, while Dr Geeta Hundal, Director, Youth Festival, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar featured as the special guest of the inaugural event.

Jaspal Singh Waraich, joint secretary, governing council, and Principal Gurpinder Singh Samra welcomed the distinguished guests. In his address, SSP Mahal said the youth festivals play a major role in sharpening the talents of youngsters.

Samra remarked that it was a momentous occasion for the college to host the inter-zonal festival.

On the first day of the fest, competitions were held in bhangra, group shabad/ bhajan,group song (Indian), classical vocal, classical instrumental (percussion and non-percussion), on-the-spot painting, photography, cartooning, poster making, collage, clay modelling and installation.

On the second day, folk orchestra, mimicry, skit, one-act play, western vocal (solo), western group song, elocution, poetic recitation, debate, phulkari and rangoli competitions were held.

In bhangra, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, won the first prize, DAV, Jalandhar, won the second spot, while GNDU Amritsar bagged the third position. In group shabad, APJ College, Jalandhar, won the first prize, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, got the second prize and SSN College, Deena Nagar, bagged the third spot. In group song (Indian), first prize- Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, second prize- DAV, Jalandhar and third prize-APJ College, Jalandhar.
