Jalandhar, May 18

Aiming to encourage women voters to exercise their franchise, the district administration has decided to set up nine all-women managed polling stations in the Jalandhar parliamentary constituency for the LS elections on Sunday. Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC)-cum-District Election Officer (DEO) Varinder Kumar Sharma today said all women polling booths would be set up in nine assembly constituencies falling under the Lok Sabha seat.

He said the district administration has selected nine polling stations namely Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Phillaur (East side); Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Tehsil Bazaar in Nakodar (East Side); Government Girls Primary School in Shahkot; Government Elementary School Wadala in Kartarpur (East side); MGN Public School, Adarsh Nagar in Jalandhar (West); Government Girls Senior Secondary School (West side); Ladowali Road in Jalandhar (Central); DAVIET, Kabir Nagar (South side-2) in Jalandhar (North); Guru Amar Dass Public School, Model Town (East side-1), Jalandhar Cantonment and Government Elementary School in Daulatpur in Adampur; to be headed by all-women teams during the poll.

The DC said the entire staff deployed at such polling stations, including polling staff, police and security personnel, would be women.

He said 45 model polling stations would be set up in the Jalandhar parliamentary constituency to accord a ‘red carpet welcome’ to electors, adding that every assembly segment would have five model polling stations, which would have good condition building with fresh wall paintings; easy access to building; good quality furniture for poling personnel and polling agents; voting compartments of fiberglass and other facilities.

The DC said: “The votes have improved queue management with rope separators, assistance of volunteers, priority voting for PWD, senior citizens, pregnant and lactating mothers, adding that there will be a facility of medical first aid for voters at the booths.” — TNS
