Rural Development Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa today asked Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal to desist from playing politics over the agony of flood victims in this hour of crisis.

The minister said the victims in flood affected areas were already distressed due to the natural catastrophe.

He said doing politics over the issue reflects the insensitivity of SAD leaders.

Bajwa said the state government, led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, was committed for bailing out people in this hour of crisis.

The minister, who has been entrusted with the task to oversee the restoration of power supply to the flood-affected areas, reviewed the same with Chairman-cum-Managing director of the PSPCL Baldev Singh Sran. He asked the Chairman to get the power supply restored in flood affected villages.

Replying to another query, the minister, who reviewed the flood-relief arrangements here today, said every effort would be made to compensate farmers for their losses.

He said the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats would also embark a special drive to reconstruct the infrastructural damage caused to roads and government buildings.

Bajwa said the loss of even a single penny to any individual would be fully compensated.

The minister also asked officers of the Rural Development Department to help the district administration in the relief operations. He said every effort was being made to ensure that people in marooned villages were given maximum relief.

He also donated his one month’s salary to the flood-affected villagers. — TNS
