Tension at Sodal temple defused

JALANDHAR: Tension prevailed at Sodal Temple here as Hindu and Nihang Sikh groups came into against each other over the construction of a platform at the temple site.

Tension prevailed at Sodal Temple here as Hindu and Nihang Sikh groups came into against each other over the construction of a platform at the temple site.

A gurdwara and a temple are situated within the same complex and as the temple authorities on Friday got started construction of a platform, Sikh leaders opposed it. The Nihangs began arguing with industrialist Sheetal Vij, who represented the temple.

The tense atmosphere prevailed for over an hour after which Jalandhar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar reached the spot and got the tension diffused.

“The issue has been amicably resolved. The representatives of both groups shook hands in my presence,” said Bhullar.

Bhullar welcomed the decision of both groups in the interest of maintaining peace and law and order in the city. He said the incident happened due to communication gap and was resolved through mutual understanding.

DCP Gurmeet Singh, ADCP Parminder Singh Bhandal, former Jalandhar Improvement Trust Chairman Baljeet Singh Neelamahal, District SAD president Kulwant Singh Manan and members of the Sikh Talmel Committee were also present.
