Those faced with corruption in the treasury office can now lodge a direct complaint with the Secretary, Finance, Punjab. A notice board, which the government has asked all district treasury offices to put up at their offices, empowers the common man to do just that.
In view of the reports of harassment and corruption faced by the public at treasury offices, the government has henceforth instructed all treasury offices to put up notices regarding zero tolerance to corruption. In these notices, those facing harassment have been encouraged to contact the Secretary, Finance, directly in case they face any problem.
The letter issued to all district treasury offices in the state reads: "It has been observed that the common public/senior citizens keep complaining against the employees of the treasury department that they do not operate without bribes. The state government has adopted a 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption. To encourage people's visits to the district treasury offices, a notice on the issue be put up at these offices."
The notice the offices have been asked to put up reads: "The state government has adopted a zero tolerance policy towards corruption. The public and senior citizens are hereby informed that if any official at a treasury office seeks bribe from a person or is a person unnecessarily harassed, then they can directly inform the Secretary, Treasury Department, on the given number: Dr. S Karuna Raju, Secretary, Finance- cum-Director, Finance Department, Chandigarh. The number of the secretary has also been provided to those facing difficulties: 94467-70294.
