The family members of the woman named Sapna, who delivered a child on Monday and later died on her way to PGIMR Chandigarh, held a protest blocking the road outside the Civil Hospital this afternoon. They alleged that due to the negligence of doctors and medical staff, she was being pushed to death.

They alleged that after giving birth to a healthy baby boy at the Civil Hospital, the condition of the woman had later worsened. They also alleged that the medical staff posted on duty called the doctor very late. The doctor had referred the woman to Chandigarh. While on the way to Chandigarh, the condition of the woman worsened and due to continuous bleeding, she died before reaching PGI.

On Tuesday afternoon, the family members of the Sapna, wife of Deepak Kumar of Ludhiana and daughter of Shiv Kumar, a resident Hoshiarpur, blocked the road in front of the main gate of the Civil Hospital and shouted slogans against the doctors and the government. On receiving information about the incident, Inspector Lomesh Sharma reached the spot along with the police party and tried to persuade them but the protestors kept on demanding action against the doctors. After about an hour when police assured them of strong action and it was only after it that traffic could be restored.

On Sunday late night, Sapna was taken to the Civil Hospital, where she gave birth to her son at 12:30 pm. After some time, Sapna's health began to deteriorate as she was continuously bleeding. When her condition worsened, the kin asked the staff to call doctor but they allegedly kept on saying that there was no gynecologist in the hospital. Later a doctor referred her to PGI Chandigarh. The family members alleged that without treating her for the continuous bleeding after the delivery, she was sent to Chandigarh in ambulance without any doctor accompanying her.

The Civil surgeon Dr Renu Sood said the normal delivery of the woman was done on Monday. After delivery, he was referred to PGI due to much blood loss. As the family had accused that doctors had been negligent in delivery, she would order an inquiry into the case.
