Safety quiz for school students

Madhav Mittal and Sargun Kaur from Manav Rachna International school were adjudged as winners of the Skyline School Quiz 2018 organised in Gurugram last week. Eicher Trucks and Buses, organised the final round of the quiz at DPS International School, Sector 50, Gurgaon. 

The winners were awarded a trip to the NASA space center in Washington, USA. The first runners up trophy was bagged by Jai Kumar Bhatia & Rajat Kumbhare of Ryan International school, followed by Ishika Nakum & Narayan Singh Sisodiya of City Star Convent High Sec. school. The finalists were awarded consolation prizes along with certificates. 

This year this annual quiz competition was conducted in over 1,100 schools across the country of which 50 schools qualified for regional rounds. Out of these, five schools were chosen for the final round, which included Mittal International School (Kota), City Star Convent High Sec. School (Indore), Gnanambikai Matriculation School (Coimbatore), Manav Rachna International School (Faridabad) and Ryan International School (Vasant Kunj, New Delhi). 


Young Kalam Science Fest

Princy and Geetha from Government Girls School, Avadi, won the first prize for their topic’ Smart City Innovation Gadgets’ at the Young Kalam Science Fest 2018 organised in Chennai last week. The rolling Young Kalam trophy for 2018 was bagged by P. Jayachandar  and Y. Hemaprakash from Kodambakkam Police Girls and Boys Club for their model on Drainage Management in Smart Cities. The fest is organised by HCL Foundation, the CSR arm of HCL Technologies. Young Kalam Science Fest is aimed to provide a platform for students from government schools adopted by HCL Foundation and HCL Gurukuls, from Chennai, Bangalore, Madurai and Hyderabad, to display scientific models in an exhibition. 

The second prize was bagged by Supriya, Nivetha, Janani from Nolambur GHSS; their topic was Root Zone Purification. Third prize was given to Harishiya and Nivetha from Kandigai School for their topic Blind Stick Sensor. A total of 50 models were presented by govt schools and clubs from Chennai, Bangalore and Madurai. — TNS
