Fashion fraternity—designers, influencers, followers and victims alike, have time and again shared profound thoughts on the colour black and the fabled little black dress. LBD, as it’s endearingly called by the fashion industry, has been rightfully given its due in the fashion history. But there’s never a wrong time to pull out the revolutionary piece of garment and raise a toast.

We pulled out—The Little Black Dress

LBD—Fashion heavyweight Karl Lagerfeld rightfully summed up when he said, ‘One is never underdressed or overdressed with a little black dress.’ But then as the creative head of Chanel he is the one who literally redefined the Little Black Dress. Fashion historians attribute Coco Chanel to the origins of the dress. Remember it’s the time (1920s) when simple black garments were strongly associated with women in mourning, servant’s clothing or anything but haute couture.

Accessorise me best — When it’s a little black dress you begin with, it’s hard to go wrong. “It’s the simplest to accessorise. Just anything, anything goes with a little black dress—chunky earrings, white sneakers, colourful peep toes, you name it,” Sara Gilhotra, stylist, with a fashion web portal, shares the ease with which it can be accessorised by anybody.

She adds, “There are two things one needs to keep in mind, the fabric and cut of the dress and the occasion where you are sporting it. For instance, if your little black number is in silk with lace detailing, I suggest it be worn accordingly. At the same time, if it’s in viscose or rayon, it can be pulled off during the day with white shoes.”
