Ludhiana: The FICCI Ladies Organisation stepped into its 8th year in the city under the chairmanship of Nandita Bhaskar with an intense and enlightening session with Lt Payal Gupta and Captain Atool Sinha of the Indian Navy.

The event was presided over by chief guest, Anita Punj, Inspector General of Police Personnel and Training. Lt Payal Gupta was the speaker for the day and shared how she became a part of the first Indian team to cross Atlantic in least time. She said it was a moment of pride for her when she joined the first all-women team of naval officers in the world to circumnavigate the globe on a historic voyage, the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’ onboard a sailing vessel INSV Tarini and created a world record. She was one of the crew members to circumnavigate the world. The officer has 45,000 nautical miles under her belt.

The evening was made even more special by the presence of the guest of honour Captain Sinha. The mission was mentored by Captain Sinha as officer-in-charge of the ocean sailing node for over a year and a half before they took off on their historic voyage, the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’. He shared how this all-women crew had been meticulously trained by him to endure any designs that the sea may fork out. Chief guest Punj who had her long and illustrious career in police gave her perspective on gender equality and women safety. —TNS
