Ludhiana, September 20

Even after serving show-cause notices on the parking contractors, the MC has failed to make them implement the terms and conditions of the contract at the sites. The MC had sent notices to the contractors of nine parking sites and given them three-day time to file their replies as to why the e-ticketing system has not been started.

According to an official of the tehbazari wing, the contractors were supposed to file their replies by September 18. However, the violations are still going on without any check.

It seems the contractors backed by some politicians have no fear of any action. They have even failed to provide uniform as well as identity cards to their parking employees. Apart from this, there are no CCTV cameras at the sites.

Superintendent in the MC Charanjeet Singh said some of the contractors might have filed their replies but they were yet to check the mails. “We had given three days time to the contractors to file their replies. If they still fail to fulfil the terms and conditions, we will take further action on Monday,” he said.

Notably, the MC had floated the tenders for the parking sites without implementation of the public parking policy. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu had assured that he would not tolerate fleecing. But no action has been taken against any of the erring contractors.

There is no provision for online registration of complaints. The visitors to the Mall Road, Bhadaur House, Feroze Gandhi Market and other sites have complained of fleecing by the parking staff.
