SWS XI beat Ludhiana City XI to emerge champions

LUDHIANA: The Students Welfare Society (SWS) XI beat Ludhiana City XI by seven wickets to emerge as champions in the First Invitation Cricket Tournament (U-19) held at the cricket ground, Bhoura.

The Students Welfare Society (SWS) XI beat Ludhiana City XI by seven wickets to emerge as champions in the First Invitation Cricket Tournament (U-19) held at the cricket ground, Bhoura.

As many as 15 teams participated in this tournament, organised by the Students Welfare Society, Aman Nagar, near Jalandhar bypass. Matches of 15-overs each side were played during the tournament held to motivate the youth towards sports.

In the final, batting first, Ludhiana City XI scored 126 runs in the stipulated 12 overs in which the main contributors were Sahil (40), Kunar (35), Bunty (26), Karan (13) and Shivam (12). For SWS XI, Dhunna was the pick of bowlers who captured three wickets in four overs after giving away 20 runs while Vicky claimed two wickets for 40 runs in three overs.

The SWS XI made the required runs after losing three wickets with one over to go. The architects of their victory were Dhunna, Abhi and Shivam who scored 62, 35 and 30 runs, respectively, to help their side achieve the target.

For the losing side, Bunty grabbed two wickets in four overs after conceding 40 runs. Dhunna of the winning side was declared man of the match for his outstanding all-round contribution in this victory.

Agul Mathur, president of the organising society, gave away prizes to the winners. He advised the youngsters to take an active part in sports and lead a healthy life.

The office-bearers of the society, including Karan Vij, Aman Gill, Gagan Sharma, Vishal Tangri, Kuldeep Sharma, Rattan Warraich, Parminder Bangar, Shubham Behal, Sehajpal Pall and Ashish, were present at the prize distribution function. — OC
