A group of Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) councillors staged a protest against Joint Commissioner-cum-Zonal Commissioner Kulpreet Singh at the Zone A office on Monday. The councillors alleged that Kulpreet misbehaved with the councillor from Ward No. 38, Kuldeep Singh Bitta, and others.

Bitta said he, along with other councillors, visited the office of the Joint Commissioner as work related to street lights was being delayed. “When we went to inquire about the status of our files, Kulpreet misbehaved with us and refused to clear those files. He asked us to leave the office, saying that a meeting was under way,” he said

“It is not the way to deal with councillors of any Opposition party. The official ignores our files. Thus, we staged a protest against him,” he said.

Meanwhile, MLA Simarjit Singh Bains said he also complained to Municipal Commissioner Kanwalpreet Brar in this regard. Bains said the officials should follow the protocol for elected representatives.

Denying the allegations, Kulpreet said: “I did not misbehave with anyone. Actually, Councillor Kuldeep Singh misbehaved with me. They levelled false allegations against me.”

“I was holding a meeting with officials when Kuldeep entered my room. While thumping on my desk, he asked me to immediately clear the files. I told him that it was not possible to clear the files without discussing the matter with the official concerned. I also called the executive engineer (light) to come to my office to discuss the matter related to street light files. But the councillor wanted me to clear the files immediately. The behavior of the councillor was very undemocratic. I informed the Municipal Commissioner in this regard.”
