The office-bearers and activists of various units associated with the Rotary District 3090 will launch a coordinated movement against the degradation of environment due to irrational use of plastics.

The movement will start from various localities of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan on August 26, which will be observed as ‘Kick-out Plastic Day’ by the crusaders.

Announcement about the movement was made by the District Governor Dr Vishaw Bandhu Dixit during the concluding session of a special meeting of Assistant Governors of organisations at Bathinda on Sunday.

Acknowledging role being played by government and non-government organisations regarding the preservation of the degrading environment, the Rotary leaders resolved that masses should be educated about the misuse and non-biodegradable nature of plastic products besides continuing tree plantation drive. “Besides organising workshops and seminars on the subject at various organisations, members of families of all units of Rotary Club, Inner wheel Club, Rotract Club and Rotary Village Corps associated with the RI District 3090 will distribute paper and cloth carrier bags among residents on August 26 to spread the message against plastic,” said Dr Dixit.
