The administration is busy handling situation following flooding of agricultural fields due to recent rains.

Besides pumping out stagnant water from the affected fields, Drainage Department officials have been advised to make arrangements to check waterlogging.

Meanwhile, revenue officials have been advised to initiate the process for assessment of damage caused to crops due to rains at some villages in the region.

Officials led by Ahmedgarh SDM Vikramjeet Singh Panthey, Raikot SDM Dr Himanshu Gupta and Payal SDM Swati Tiwana took stock of damage caused to crops standing in low-lying fields at village falling under the jurisdiction of Ludhiana and Sangrur districts.

Identifying poor drainage to be one of the compounding factors for the losses, the officials concerned have been advised to initiate steps to revamp the drainage system.

Revenue officials led by Panthey inspected the fields situated at Ballewal, Bhogiwal and surrounding villages near here to assess the damage caused due to heavy rains and advised the officials concerned to undertake special girdawari for preparing a list of affected farmers.

Referring to the outcome of his visit, Panthey said residents, lambardars and sarpanches of the vulnerable villages had discussed problems of their respective areas with him. “After I was told about the factors compounding the waterlogging problem, I advised the functionaries of various departments to arrange for pumping out the stagnant water and make necessary arrangements to keep a check on the situation,” said Panthey.
