The local unit of the BJP celebrated the historic decision taken by Narendra Modi’s government to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35A that gave a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP leaders distributed laddoos at the Clock Tower in the evening to celebrate the decision. When the police asked the local leaders to celebrate the occasion in the office only, a minor argument took place. However, the workers continued to distribute laddoos and raise slogans “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.

Rohit Sikka, BJP leader, distributed sweets in the Haibowal area. Anil Sarin, spokesman for Punjab BJP, too, welcomed the historic decision of Narendra Modi government to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35A. A historical wrong has been undone, he said. Sarin complemented PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for “correcting a historical blunder”.

He said separate status led to separatism and no dynamic nation allows it to be continued. With the scrapping of Article 370, the BJP has fulfilled its promise made to the people of the country. Now, there will be no separate flag for Jammu and Kashmir and only Indian flag would fly in J&K. There would be no separate constitution for J&K. All Indians can buy property and do business there. People of J&K would get the benefit of reservation policy for the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/OBC the same as other Indians. Now, the Right to Information Law shall be applicable to the state.

Sarin asserted that this would be in benefit of all peoples of Jammu and Kashmir as well as people living in the other parts of the country. He further said the political parties opposing the decision were those people who had been using the Kashmiris and Kashmir issue for their political gains.
