Most important thing that needs to be changed in a New Year is a calendar. With technology taking over and everything available on mobile phone, people are slowly weaning away from traditional aspect of New Year beginnings to great extent. However, many people who are still old school and prefer buying calendars are a blessing to those who are involved in this trade from decades. “I begin my day by looking at a calendar. All my important meetings and work schedules are written on the calendar. Although phones do give us reminder and note’s option but for me it will always be a calendar,” said a senior citizen buying a calendar from a shop.

A ‘ban’ needed on ban orders

According to the directions of the Apex Court with regard to use of loud speakers during night hours, the Police Commissionerate constantly issues ban orders under Section 144 of the CrPC every two months (maximum permissible period). While this exercise has become an official routine, violation of orders has also become a routine affair. On any given day, loud speakers keep blaring till late night or wee hours. Those living close to marriage palaces and hotels with banquet halls, among others, are the worst affected. Either the police should make sure that ban orders are implemented in letter and spirit or stop issuing such orders which are not taken seriously by residents.
