Ludhiana, July 19

The SAD-BJP leaders have announced to lock the MC’s Zone-A office gates on July 25 to mark their protest against the state government and MC Ludhiana.

The leaders accused the MC and the Congress government of failing to carry out development in the city. After a meeting of SAD-BJP leaders on Thursday, SAD district president Ranjit Singh Dhillon said the civic body’s financial condition was very poor, as even the employees’ salaries were being delayed. The state government and MC House have failed to pay attention towards the problems being faced by people, he said.

Dhillon claimed the development works were only carried out during the tenure of the SAD-BJP government. Now, even maintenance was not being done, he said.

“The performance of Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu is very poor. The MC has no stock of cement, bitumen, diesel and other required items. It has failed to ensure timely cleaning of the Buddha Nullah. Residents are suffering due to major waterlogging after rains these days. Even fogging to control breeding of mosquitoes has been stopped by the MC. There is no need to run the MC if the problems are not being resolved,” he said.

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said: “The previous SAD-BJP government is responsible for the poor condition of the civic body. They only made roads in their tenure of their 10 years, but these roads, too, have started peeling just within a short period. They took no measures to avoid waterlogging in the city, leaving residents in lurch. The SAD-BJP only took loans, due to which the MC pays around Rs7 crore as interest every month. They have cheated residents.”
