A 42-year-old man was found murdered near the City Centre building at SBS Nagar last night. The police have registered a case under Section 302, IPC.

The deceased, identified as Sunil Kumar of Sunet, is survived by his wife Sunita, son Navjot (18), who studies in BCom at PCTE, and two twins, namely Prabhjot and Priyanka, who study in plus one at a private school.

Sunil worked at a yarn-trading firm. Yesterday, he left home around 8.30 am on his electric bicycle. After parking his bicycle at his owner’s house in Gurdev Nagar, he went to the market on a bike.

He returned to Gurdev Nagar around 8.30 pm, parked the motorcycle there, and set out on his electric bicycle. He called his wife up and told her to get ready as they had to visit their relatives. “I kept on waiting for my husband, but he did not arrive home. Even his phone went switched off. We lodged a complaint with the Sarabha Nagar police but they sent us to Division 5 where the complaint was finally registered,” said Sunita.

Around 11.55 pm last night, a team of the SBS Nagar police spotted a body near the City Centre building. After identifying the body, his family was informed.

The police said Sunil’s electric bicycle was missing while his mobile phone and cash, etc, were found on the body. The police didn’t suspect loot as the cause of murder.

The ADCP 2, Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, said the police had launched investigation into the case.
