First Lok Sabha member from Vizianagaram KS Tilak dies at 98

VISAKHAPATNAM: Freedom fighter and member of the first Lok Sabha, Kandaala Subrahmanya Tilak, died here on Friday, sources close to his family said. He was 98.



Visakhapatnam, June 8

Freedom fighter and member of the first Lok Sabha, Kandaala Subrahmanya Tilak, died here on Friday, sources close to his family said. He was 98.

Tilak, who took part in India’s freedom struggle, including the Salt Satyagraha, was elected to the first Lok Sabha in 1952 from Vizianagaram constituency.

He died of old age, the sources said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over Tilak’s death.

In a condolence message, the chief minister said Tilak led the freedom struggle in the north coastal Andhra region and inspired the people.

Tilak’s services to the nation would remain etched in history, Naidu said. — PTI
