A local court extended former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar by 14 days on Monday. Tomar, who has been accused of forging his degrees, was arrested in June.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tarun Yogesh, who remanded Tomar to judicial custody till July 20, also ordered Delhi Police to take a sample of Tomar’s signature before a magistrate to match it with new documents secured from various universities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Tomar told the court he would like to be apprised of the developments in the case.

On June 22, the court had denied Tomar bail and had remanded him to judicial custody, which ended on Monday.

The court had some used some words of rebuke while dismissing Tomar’s bail application, even asking him how long he intended to fool the public.

Tomar, an MLA from Trinagar, was arrested on June 9 after investigation into a complaint by Bar Council of Delhi revealed he possessed a forged law degree from a college in Bihar.

Tomar has been booked for under various provisions pertaining to cheating and forgery under the Indian Penal Code. PTI
