Congress president Rahul Gandhi conceded defeat in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, and congratulated rivals Bharatiya Janata Party on its victory in both states.
“The Congress party accepts the verdict of the people and congratulates the new governments in both states. I thank the people of Gujarat and Himachal with all my heart for the love they showed me,” Gandhi said in tweets — his first response after results showed BJP swept Gujarat and won a clear mandate in Gujarat, where it is incumbent.
He also appreciated Congress workers for “well-fought” elections, admitting said that these were “different” from the previous ones.
"The Congress party accepts the verdict of the people and congratulates the new governments in both states. I thank the people of Gujarat and Himachal with all my heart for the love they showed me,” Gandhi tweeted.
