Vaiko moves SC for release of Abdullah

NEW DELHI: MDMK leader Vaiko on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir administration to produce before it former state Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, who is allegedly under detention following abrogation of special provisions under Article 370.

New Delhi, September 11 

MDMK leader Vaiko on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir administration to produce before it former state Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, who is allegedly under detention following abrogation of special provisions under Article 370.

Vaiko, a Rajya Sabha MP, demanded that authorities should allow the former CM to attend a “peaceful and democratic” annual conference being organised in Chennai on September 15 on the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister CN Annadurai. He contended that Abdullah had been deprived of his constitutional rights on account of “illegal detention”. — TNS
