Commemorating the ‘spirit of giving’ on World Blood Donor Day, the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO), PGI, organised a blood donation camp and created awareness regarding organ donation at the Punjab Raj Bhawan here today.

VP Singh Badnore, UT Administrator, interacted with donors and the team from the PGI and lauded their efforts. The camp received a good response with 33 volunteers pledging for organ donation.

Prof Vipin Koushal, Acting Medical Superintendent, PGI, and Nodal Officer, ROTTO, said: “Through the camps, we want to create awareness and a positive attitude towards organ donation.”

“With political will and driven by the top authorities, this initiative will have an immense impact and definitely help us garner support for the cause,” added Prof Koushal.

Commending the synergy between the blood bank and ROTTO for promoting the cause of blood donation and pledging organs, Prof RR Sharma, Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI, said: “I think it is a brilliant idea to have organ donation pledging counter with blood donation camps. It is easier to sensitise blood donors as they are already driven by passion and commitment to ‘live beyond oneself.’ Blood donors enjoy credibility owing to their social commitment, the message dissemination through them will be much more effective.”
