‘Defrauded’, 4 of family seek nod to end life

Baba Deep Singh Nagar resident Nawab Singh and his family today submitted a letter to the authorities here expressing their desire to end life, saying they have got tired fighting for justice in a property dispute.

A copy of the letter signed by Nawab Singh, his wife Saroj, daughter Jyoti and son Inderjit has also been emailed to the Chief Minister and Deputy Commissioner.

Nawab Singh claimed that he signed an agreement with a resident in new Basant Nagar to purchase the latter’s house in 2014 and “paid” Rs 10 lakh as per the deal. He got possession of the house, but the sale deed was not executed. The seller, a politically influential person, later forcibly took possession of the house back in 2015. Local officials were approached, but to no avail, the applicant rued.

Poonam Singh, SDM, confirmed that Nawab Singh approached her last week. She referred the complaint to the police. DSP Gurbinder Singh Sangha said the family had been told to produce relevant documents. — OC
