Darshan of Guru Nanak’s ‘padukas’ in Mumbai on Monday

MUMBAI: The exposition of the ‘padukas’ or ‘kharauns’ (sandals) worn by Guru Nanak Dev will take place at Mumbai’s Khalsa college on Monday as part of the 550th birth anniversary of the Sikh religion’s founder, according to officials of the institution.

The exposition of the ‘padukas’ or ‘kharauns’ (sandals) worn by Guru Nanak Dev will take place at Mumbai’s Khalsa college on Monday as part of the 550th birth anniversary of the Sikh religion’s founder, according to officials of the institution.

The ‘kharauns’ have been brought to India from Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak which now lies in Pakistan.

The relics of Guru Nanak are being carried aboard a bus decked up as a palkhi from the India-Pakistan border at Wagah where it arrived in August. The Guru’s relics are being taken across the country on board the bus where they have been venerated by the members of the Sikh
community, according to Khalsa college officials.

The procession of the ‘kharauns’ being organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). According to Khalsa college chairman Gurinder Singh Bawa, Mumbai’s Sikh community has organised a helicopter to shower the ‘palki’ with flowers.

According to the SGPC the relics will be displayed at all the ‘panch takhts’ and the 65 holy destinations of the Sikhs across 17 states in India.
